Rihanna Mourns the Loss of Her Father
Rihanna is grieving the death of her father, Ronald Fenty, who died at the age of 70 in Los Angeles after a short illness. The specific cause of his passing has not been disclosed. Fans around the globe have taken to social media to express their condolences and support for the artist during this challenging time.
As reported by a local news outlet in Barbados, Ronald Fenty passed away early on Saturday. A native of Barbados and father to six children, he struggled with substance abuse issues and had a tumultuous relationship with Rihanna's mother, Monica Braithwaite, from whom he separated when Rihanna was just 14 years old.
Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, has candidly discussed her complex and often painful relationship with her father. She described their connection as 'really strange,' stating, 'That’s the only word I can think of to describe it because you grow up with your father … you are a part of him for goodness sakes!'
In a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, she reflected, 'He taught me everything, and as awful as he was to my mom at times, it didn’t compare to how great he was as a father. I had to come to terms with that, and I was able to close that gap with him.'
Fans have shared their sympathies on social media, with one touching tweet saying, 'It warms my heart to know Rihanna was able to heal and repair her relationship with her father… despite anything, she loved her father and he loved his children. Love that for her! We love you Rih!'
Another fan commented, 'Rihanna’s father dead at 70. They may have had a rocky relationship, but they still loved each other.'
Numerous fans have conveyed their condolences, stating, 'We are so sorry for your loss, sending our love and prayers to Rihanna and her family.'
In 2019, Rihanna took legal action against her father for using her name without authorization to promote his business, Fenty Entertainment. However, the case concluded in 2021, and they reconciled afterward.
This loss comes as Rihanna is anticipating the arrival of her third child with rapper A$AP Rocky.
